Parachute jumpers bring proclamation at Coventry Cove ground breaking

GROVES — This ground breaking had guests looking up toward
the sky.
A team of parachute jumpers
delivered a proclamation for Groves Mayor Brad P. Bailey to read in honor of
Coventry Court, a new subdivision of town homes that will bring an expanded tax
base to the city.
Guests braved briars and ants
to gather under a tent Thursday. After introductions, speaker Mark Viator
dramatically announced that he thought he heard a plane.
A procession of jumpers
tumbled out with their brightly-colored chutes opening against the clear, blue
skies above.
Ed Cheek, president of Coy
Development, said the $14 million project will include 31 luxury town homes in a
gated community at the corner of Texas 73 and 25th Street in Groves. Some wooden
frames are already up in the associated 31 single-family homes being constructed
across 25th Street. Construction is now set to begin on the homes and a shopping
area with a convenience store.
“We are so glad to see a
community that wants development,” Cheek said.
He told guests that Donna
Sclerandi of Coldwell Banker approached him about the project almost a year ago
and that Viator, of Partnership Strategies and Workforce Alliance, spoke to him
about the area’s refinery expansions. The pair convinced him to create the
housing in Groves.
“Without them there is no way
I would be here. This community is more than I could have ever imagined. It’s
fabulous,” Cheek said.
D.E. Sosa, Groves City
Manager, said property values would go up tremendously.
“This is a wonderful project.
It means that Groves will keep going,” Sosa said.
